Turkish
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan plans to launch the first phase of Istanbul's
new airport, which will enter history with its size, infrastructure,
technological systems and architecture.
The
airport is built on an area of 76.5 million square meters, with approximately
10.000 construction workers. The airport other stages construction is scheduled
to be completed before 2023.
The
new airport consists of 6 runways independently of each other, with a capacity
of 500 aircraft, and equipped with an indoor and outdoor parking lots with a
capacity of 70.000 cars.
The
capacity of the first phase is expected to reach 90 million passengers per
year. After the completion of all the phases the capacity will be 200 million
passengers per year.
The
airport will provide services to 250 airlines, with a daily landing and taking
off of 2,000 aircraft and more than 350 destinations.
The airport building is built under one roof on 1.3 million square meters and is considered the world's largest building and will have a free zone overlooking the Bosphorus.
